1. Presbyterian Boys Senior High School, Legon – Has won the NSMQ 6 times
Presbyterian Boys Senior High, Legon( The Legon ought to be added since there are lots of Presbyterian schools in the country) tops it all when it comes to the best senior high schools in the country based on the National Science and Maths Quiz.
They used to have won the competition 5 times but they been the latest winners in 2020, it takes their trophy to six in all making the school the best Senior High School in the country when it comes to the National Science and Maths Quiz.
2. Prempeh College – Has won the NSMQ 4 Times
They come in second when it comes to the best senior high schools in Ghana.
The Kumasi-based senior high school still holds the bragging rights in the Ashanti Region as the only school in the region to have won the competition more than thrice.
It’s the first school to have won the maiden edition of the competition when it began in 1994.
3. St. Peters SHS – Has won the NSMQ 3 Times
The Roman Catholic school based in the Eastern Region has also won the competition three times with their first win of the competition coming in 2000 and the last time they won the competition was in 2018 which I believe is of recent.
And so they come in third when it comes to the best senior high schools in Ghana based on the National Science and Maths Quiz.
4. Achimota School – Has won the NSMQ twice
This is one senior high school in the country that seems to have produced more presidents than the number of times they have won the competition.
The likes of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, Professor Ata Mills, John Dramani Mahama and even the former president of Zimbabwe; Bob Mugabe all passed through.
It is one school that can be well classified as the school for the elites but comes in fourth when it comes to the best senior High schools in the country as they have won the National Science and Maths Quiz twice after 4 times at the finals.
The last time they won the competition was in 2004. That’s close to 17 years now if I’m not mistaken.
4. Opoku Ware SHS – Has won the NSMQ twice
OWASS has also won the competition twice since its inception after 8 times at the finals. Their first win came in 1997 and the last time they won the competition was in 2002.
The Kumasi-based school is indeed a force to reckon with because being at the finals eight times at the National Science and Maths is no fluke at all.
4. St. Augustine’s College-Has Won the NSMQ twice
The Cape Coast based school has also won the competition twice. They are one of the schools which aren’t only among the oldest but one of the best as well when it comes to academics.
It is the only which has been at the finals twice and won it all. The last time they were at the final was in was in 2019 and they won.
They won their maiden final in 2007.
4. Mfantsipim SHS – Has won the NSMQ twice
Mfantsipim joins the tall list of senior high schools in the country that has won the competition twice. It is based in the Central Region and as usual one of the oldest senior high schools in the country.
They have been at the finals 4 times and won it twice as I have already indicated. They last won the competition in 2014.
8. Pope John Senior School – Has won the NSMQ once
Now joining the elites of senior high schools in the country that has won the National Science and Math Quiz once is POJOSS.
The Eastern Region based SHS won their maiden final they went to in 2001.
9. Ghana Secondary Technical School – one time winners
The only school in the Western Region to have won the NSMQ is GSTS and they did it in style in 2012.
Before that they had been at the finals three times and had been the second runners-up twice.
9. St. Thomas Aquinas SHS – One-Time Winners
St. Thomas Aquinas has also won the competition once with their win coming in the year 2013 after two times at the finals.
